What people make with a whiteboard video maker

Whiteboard videos work wherever something needs explaining clearly. These are the jobs Sketchvo gets used for most:

Lessons and revision

Turn a chapter or lesson plan into a short video students can rewatch before a test.

Product explainers

Show what your product does and why it matters in under two minutes.

Staff training

Upload an SOP or policy and get a narrated walkthrough everyone hears the same way.

YouTube channels

Faceless explainers on history, science, money or psychology, in long-form or Shorts.

Course modules

Break a course into bite-size drawn lessons with a consistent look.

Social posts

Vertical sketch videos that stop the scroll on Reels, TikTok and Shorts.

Sales follow-ups

Send a one-minute explainer instead of another long email.

Patient and customer guides

Explain a process, a procedure or a set of instructions in plain language.

Five ways to start a video

A one-line idea

"How vaccines train the immune system, for 12-year-olds." Sketchvo writes the script, then draws it.

A PDF or Word file

Lesson notes, a policy, a report or slides saved as PDF. The key points become scenes.

A web page

Paste a link to a blog post, product page or article and turn it into a narrated summary.

Your own script

Already written it? Paste it in. Each sentence or two becomes one drawn scene.

Your own pictures

In the free Studio, write each scene and attach your own photo or diagram — it gets sketched on screen.

How to describe a video so it comes out right

A good request has four parts. Miss one and the AI has to guess.

  • Topic — what the video explains, in one sentence.
  • Audience — who it is for: “new employees”, “10-year-olds”, “busy founders”.
  • Goal — what viewers should know or do at the end.
  • Length and tone — “90 seconds, friendly” or “3 minutes, formal”.

Example: “Explain compound interest to teenagers who just got their first job. They should finish wanting to save 10% of every paycheck. 90 seconds, upbeat.”

Two levers people forget: ask for one idea per scene, so the drawing never has to cram, and ask for a question as the opening line — it is the easiest hook there is.

What the videos look like

Each scene is drawn by an animated hand, line by line, then revealed in full while the narrator speaks. The look is clean and friendly rather than glossy, which is exactly why it suits teaching, training and explaining: it feels like someone walking you through an idea at a board. If you want something more cinematic, Sketchvo also offers a richer animated-scene style.

Voices and languages

Narration comes from natural AI voices in 15 languages, and the language of your source material can be detected automatically. Write or generate the script in the language you want to hear — that is what the narrator reads.

How long should a whiteboard video be?

Where it’s goingIdeal lengthRoughly
TikTok, Reels, Shorts20–60 seconds50–150 words
Homepage or product explainer60–90 seconds150–230 words
Lesson or training module2–6 minutes300–900 words
YouTube explainer6–10 minutes900–1,500 words

Formats and where to post them

16:9 landscape is for YouTube, websites, presentations and learning platforms. 9:16 vertical is for TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. Videos download as standard MP4 files, so they work anywhere — an LMS, Google Classroom, a sales email or a slide deck.

Fixing the things that usually go wrong

  • The video feels rushed. Your scenes are too long. Split anything over two sentences.
  • Pictures don’t match the words. Make each sentence concrete — “a farmer checking a dry field” draws better than “agricultural challenges”.
  • People drop off early. Open with a question or a surprising number, not a welcome.
  • The narrator stumbles. Read the script aloud first; if you trip, so will the voice.
  • Too long for social. Generate a 30-second vertical cut alongside the full version.

What a whiteboard video costs

Studios typically charge from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars per finished minute, because an illustrator, an animator and a voice artist all spend time on it. With Sketchvo, one credit makes one minute of video, and plans start at $9.99 a month — well under a dollar per minute. You can start free and only pay once you need more. See pricing.

What Sketchvo does well — and what it doesn’t

Good at

  • Turning documents and links into videos fast
  • Clear, calm explainers that teach
  • Making the same video in other languages
  • Producing lots of videos on a small budget

Not built for

  • Frame-by-frame animation control
  • A recurring cartoon cast across episodes
  • 4K output (videos top out at 1080p)
  • Live-action footage or talking avatars

A whiteboard video checklist

  • One clear goal for the whole video
  • A first line that earns the second
  • One idea per scene, one or two sentences each
  • Concrete, drawable language
  • A recap and a single call to action at the end
  • The right shape for where it’s going

Frequently asked questions

Is Sketchvo free?

Yes, you can start free. Every account gets one AI-made video, plus five free Studio videos every day where you write the scenes and pick the pictures yourself. Free Studio videos are 720p, carry a small watermark and are kept for seven days.

What is a whiteboard video?

A video where pictures appear as if a hand is drawing them on a white surface while a narrator explains. The drawing sets the pace, so viewers take in one idea at a time.

Do I need to draw or edit?

No. You describe the video, or upload a document, and Sketchvo writes the narration, sketches every scene and syncs it all. There is no timeline to manage.

How long can a video be?

Up to 10 minutes on the larger plans and 5 minutes on the entry plan. Most explainers work best between one and three minutes.

Which languages can the narrator speak?

Fifteen narration languages, and Sketchvo can detect the language of your source material automatically.

Can I make vertical videos?

Yes. Choose 9:16 before you generate for TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, or 16:9 for YouTube, websites and slides.

Can I use the videos commercially?

Yes. Videos you make can go on your channels, courses, client projects, ads and website.

How is it priced?

With credits: one credit is one minute of finished video. Paid plans start at $9.99 a month, and one-off credit packs are available if you would rather not subscribe.
